A certificate of incapacity for work involves financial compensation, which is why we ask the patient who needs a certificate of incapacity for work to adhere to the agreed deadlines when communicating with the family physician or nurse. Please inform your family physician or nurse of your illness and the need for a certificate of incapacity for work on the day of falling ill or the next following working day. If you fall ill outside our reception hours, please send us an e-mail about it to perearst@mymed.ee and on the next following working day call the family health center. The certificate of incapacity for work will not be issued retrospectively, however, in cases of trauma or emergency care, a certificate of incapacity for work can be issued on the basis of an ambulance card (‘kiirabikaart’ in Estonian) or an Emergency Department patient card within two working days.
If you have a repeat appointment, but for some unexpected reason are unable to come, it is necessary to inform the family physician or nurse (by phone, via e-mail). Failure to appear for an appointment without prior notice is in violation with the conditions of a certificate of incapacity for work and the family physician has a legal obligation to report this. The certificate of incapacity for work may be continued from the day of violation, but payment of benefit will not continue.
Coming to the appointment under the influence of alcohol or drugs is also considered a violation.
Legislation concerning the certificate of incapacity for work can be found in the Health Insurance Act (§ 53-55) and in the Regulation of the Minister of Social Affairs concerning the certificate of incapacity for work.
